Joel Chitwood Obituary

Joel Edward Chitwood, age 74, of Winfield, TN, went home to be with the Lord on March 20th, 2023.

Joel attended Pine Grove Baptist Church his entire life. He committed his life to serving Jesus Christ through traveling and singing gospel music. He sang with his family for the last 20 years of his life. He was truly one of the “Faithful Few.”

Born February 11, 1949, in Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late Albert and Cordelia Wright Chitwood. In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Chitwood; brother, Jack Chitwood; sister and brother-in-law, Rose Chitwood Crane and husband Marshall; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Beverly Chitwood; and father-in-law Dean Lawson.

Joel is survived by his sons - Joel Chitwood and wife Diana, Tyler Chitwood and husband Doug; daughter Whitney Ellis and husband Brent; grandchildren Damon, Elysia, Bentley, Mason, Roland, and AJ; sister-in-law Irene Chitwood; sister-in-law Missy Chitwood; brother-in-law Doug Goss and sister-in-law Susan Goss; mother-in-law Betty Lawson; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Jonathon Chitwood and wife Tonia, Jeff Chitwood and wife Megan, Jeremy Chitwood and wife Abby, David Crane and wife Dawn, Tim Crane and wife Jenni, Jared Chitwood, Steven Crane, Sherry Stephens, and Thea Chitwood; and many other family members and friends.

Friends may visit with the Chitwood family on Friday, March 24th 2023, after 5:00 p.m. at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Winfield.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Winfield, TN, with Bro. Payton Slaven and Bro. Mike Smedley officiating. Music will be provided by the Chitwood Boys and the Pine Grove Choir.

Committal service will follow in the Jonathan Chitwood Cemetery in Winfield, TN. Pallbearers will be: Jonathan, Jeff, Jeremy, and Jared Chitwood and David, Tim, and Steven Crane.
