Harold Gene Young, age 77 of Robbins, TN, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born December 18, 1941, he was the son of the late Zane and Martha Goad Young
Harold was a member of Robbins First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer, and adult Sunday school teacher for many years; a veteran of the United States Army; and 50-year member of Scott County Lodge 670 F&AM. He was a retired educator with the Scott County School System with 39 years of service, having taught all things science at Wartburg Central and Scott High School where he was awarded High School Teacher of the Year in 2008. He also served as President of the South Scott County Community Club, Vice President of the Scott County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the National and State Science Teachers Association, TEA, NEA, and SCEA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Eli (Carla) Young, Charles Young, and Billy Joe Young; sisters, Drexel (Don) Ward, and Sally (Jerry) Poe.
Harold is survived by his wife of 43 years: Sandra Jo Jeffers Young, of Robbins; son: Derek (Beth) Young, of Soddy Daisy; daughters: Miranda Young, of Cleveland; Holly (Ian) Soderbom, of Cookeville; granddaughter: Chloe Young, of Soddy Daisy; brother: David (Louise) Young, of Robbins, sisters-in-law: Nancy (Darrel) Burke, of Oneida, Phyllis Taylor, of Dayton, Ohio; nephews: John, Joseph, Jason, and Anthony Young; nieces: Veronica Huliba, Kym Strom, Jennifer Poe, Tonya, and Amanda Young; great nieces and nephews: Peyton, Andrew, Jarrod, and Chapel; many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Young family on Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until time of Masonic Service at 7:45 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 8:00 p.m. with Bro. Mike Smithers officiating. Music will be provided by the Robbins First Baptist Church Choir and Josh Neyman.
Committal Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
