Gillis Wiley (G.W.) Hicks Obituary

Gillis Wiley (G.W.) Hicks, age 90 of the Pine Hill community, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. He was the son of the late Flaura Byrd and Thomas Hicks.

G.W. was a retired employee of Lays Furniture Company with over 50 years of dedication that he enjoyed. He also enjoyed lawnmowing and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was 85 years old when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. How thankful and blessed we are to know we will see him again.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Josie Frances Duncan Hicks; brothers, Billy Joe Byrd, Jack, Odis, and George (Faye) Hicks; sister, Essie Silcox; daughter, Louetta Perkins and husband Willard; son-in-law, Ronnie (Bo) Buttram; and a special friend, Jim Radford.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy Buttram; sons, Gillis (Cheryl) Hicks, Wayne (Brenda) Hicks, and Kevin (Jackie) Hicks; grandchildren, Gin (Bill) Winchester, Chrystal (Steven) Bowling, Travis Perkins, Leann (Kevin) Fairchild, Justin (Brooke) Hicks, Traci Hicks, and Tanner Hicks; great grandchildren, Courtney and Dawson Winchester, Alex (Cassia), Rylin, and Sawyer Bowling, Devin and Jasie Fairchild, Braiden and Brody Hicks, Alyssa Krahn, Cain (Cheyenne) Laxton, Jacob and Haley Boshears; great-great grandchildren, Braylon Bond, Kash Anderson, Kingsley Winchester, Ellison and Ollivander Bowling. He is also survived by sister, Shirley (Jerry) Massengale and Earl (Joan) Hicks; sisters-in-law, Osha Jones and Jackie Duncan; brother-in-law, Gilbert (Carol) Duncan. He leaves behind many other family members and friends.

Friends may visit with the Hicks family on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 12 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Timothy Hicks and Bro. Delyn Phillips officiating.

Committal service will follow in the Mount Helen Cemetery in Fentress County. Pallbearers will be: Gillis, Wayne, Kevin, Travis, Justin, and Devin.
