Ernest Phillips Obituary

Ernest Phillips, of Huntsville, TN passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Summit View Nursing Home. Born January 29th, 1941 in New River, Tennessee he was the son of the late Floyd Phillips and Ellen & Bernard Brummett. Ernest graduated from Huntsville High School and served in the Army as a Sergeant for the 82nd Airborne Division. He was employed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol Department of Safety, and was named Officer of the Year in 1999. Ernest served as the 3rd District County Commissioner for 28 years. In addition to the service to his county, country and his profession, Ernest loyally worked for his church and community for many years.

Ernest was a loving husband and father of 5 children. He lived his life and was passionate for the Lord. He loved spreading God’s love and would help anyone in need. He was passionate about his Lord, fishing, golfing and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Ernest was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Sue Phillips; father Floyd Phillips; mother Ellen Griffith Brummett; step-father Bernard Brummett; father in-law Luther Gosnell and wife Lorene; mother in-law Ruthie Pemberton.

He is survived by his daughters, Tiffany Phillips and husband Dustin, Tina Jeffers and Husband Greg; sons Mark Watters, Mike Watters and wife Missy, and Chris Phillips. He was a proud grandfather of twelve grand kids, Houston West, Beau Phillips, Elijah Phillips and Presley Phillips. Kayla Watters, Gage Watters, Cody Watters. Jessica Jeffers and Husband Chuck, Charlsie Miller and husband Randy, Caleb Jeffers, Jacob Jeffers and Taylor Phillips; great grandchildren, Charlie Jeffers, Josiah Jeffers and Greyson Miller; brothers, Teddy Brumett and wife Kathy, Spencer Brummett and wife Brenda, Kermit Phillips and wife Charlotte. He also leaves many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Phillips family on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 5 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. at the New River Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Kermit Phillips and Bro. Kyle Keeton officiating. Music will be provided by Kaitlyn King and Charlotte Phillips.

Graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Cut Cemetery in Helenwood with full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.  Serving as pallbearers: Houston West, Beau Phillips, Elijah Phillips, Gage Watters, Cody Watters, Caleb Jeffers and Jacob Jeffers.
