Billy Ray Young, age 84, of the Grave Hill Community joined his soulmate Dorothy, and his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Big South Medical Center in Oneida with his family by his side. Billy Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a hardworking man who spent his younger years working in the log woods and sawmills being one of the best sawyers this county ever produced. He retired from Hartco after working over 20 years as the night watchman. Once he retired, he returned to his love of wood working, making rocking chairs and Easter baskets that are scattered across the state. Billy was saved at the age of 20 and joined Black Oak Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member.
Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Dorothy Terry Young, very special grand daughter Olivia Young; parents Raymond and Martha Young, father and mother in law Caney and Maudie Terry; brothers Kenneth, Eugene, Carlos, Ronald, and Robert; and sister Shirley. His very special Granny Thomas who raised him like a mother; brothers in law Theodore and James Terry and sister in law Mae Reynolds, also Paula Yancey whom he loved like a daughter.
He is survived by his children: Marian Popp and husband Jeff of Knoxville, Brenda Stringer and husband Danny, Mike Young and wife Melinda, Steve Young and wife Teresa, Martha Thomas and husband Dale, Billy Young and wife Stacey all of Oneida; grandchildren: Hannah Popp and boyfriend Rion, Chris Stringer and wife Angie, Justin Young and wife Alisha, Samantha Williams and husband Travis, Michael Young, Christy Young, Whitney Thomas and boyfriend Dylan, Cameron Thomas, Morgan, ZoieAnne and Nathan Young; great grandchildren: Madison Stringer, Owen Young, Michaelean Young, Steven and Austin Young, Alexis Byrd, and Zack Williams: great-great grandchildren: Elarah and Sylas Goodman; brother James Young and sister Pearl Jeffers: brothers and sisters in law Cordell Terry and wife Ova, Lola Terry, Bonnie Miller, J.D. Terry and wife Patsy, Harlan Terry and wife Jewell; many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Young family on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Kyle Keeton, Bro. Bradley Kidd and Bro. Ashley Cooper officiating. Music will be provided by the family.
Burial will follow in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery in Oneida. Pallbearers will be: sons and grandsons.
