William Henry Smith departed this life on January 1, 2018 at the Big South Fork Medical Center.  He was preceded in death by his parents:  Laurence C. (Star) Smith and Thelma Tallasen Smith; his maternal grandparents:  Tallas Tallasen and Severine Everson Tallasen; his paternal grandparents:  Henry Clay Smith and Lucinda Terry Smith; three sisters:  Clara Jo Smith Brown and husband W. M. Brown, Jr., Barbara Ann Smith Walls and husband Rondald Walls, Alma Smith Partain and husband Ray Partain; brother:  Thomas Clifton Smith and wife Barbara; sister-in-law:  Joyce Smith; and four nephews:  William Smith, Stephane Smith, Larry Smith and Mark Smith.

He is survived by his wife:  Nadine Chitwood Smith; sons:  Roger Alan Smith and wife Dana Smith, and William H. Smith, Jr. and wife Laurie Smith and daughter Jessica; two brothers:  Robert Lee Smith of Atlanta, and Laurence Carlyle Smith of Omaha.

He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force; and served as teacher, coach and principal of the Oneida High School until his retirement.  He and his wife traveled extensively in their early retirement years.  His main hobby was woodworking.  He was a master craftsman; and also enjoyed flying and gardening.  Church and family were very important to him.

He will leave behind many family members, relatives and friends who will cherish their memories of him, and be comforted by these memories.

Friends may visit with the Smith family on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be conducted on Friday, January 5 at 11 a.m. in the H.C. Smith Cemetery.
