Maxine Parson Welch Obituary

Maxine Parson Welch, age 91 years and 8 months, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, with her loving family members by her side. She was born to Guy William and Allie Reed Parson on March 18, 1928 in the New River area of Scott County, TN, and was the 6th of 11 children.  Maxine was a member of the Elgin Church of Christ.  She married Charles Ray Welch, and gave birth to 8 children, and helped raise a nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law:  Freeman and Bertha Tompkins Welch; husband:  Charles Ray Welch; 11-month old daughter:  Carol Jean; two sons:  Gary Ray Welch and Robert Sheridan Welch; grandson:  Steven Brent Thompson; son-in-law:  Garrett Litton; siblings:  Willard, Alonzo (Pete), Charlene, Christine, Evelyn, Buddie, Earl and Wanda; and niece:  Wilda.

Maxine is survived by five of her children:  Patricia Seale (John), Donna Frogge (Gary), Michael Welch, Regina Litton, and Debra Thompson (Steve), all who live in the Robbins Community; nephew:  David Welch; 15 grandchildren:  Karen, Tina, Heather, Jodi, Carter, Travis, Jamie, Josh, Brent (deceased), Kelli, Devin, Megan, McKenzie, Gary, and Tonya; 39 great grandchildren:  Breeanna, Chuck, Michael, Gabe, Gary, Felicia, Nicholas, Gracie, Jacob, Kirkland, Dylan, Sarah, Wyatt, Evan, Mason, Briley, Emily, Casey, Landon, Audrie, Kynlie, Harper, Hudson, Praylee, Brody, Dylan, Karlie, Allie, Riley, Granger, Aidan, Kloee, Tristen, Dalton, Destiny, Nicholas, Jade, Sierra and Dakota; 12 great, great, grandchildren:  Charlie Shae, Parker, Josiah, Alexandra, Gracelynn, Given, Zeke, Luke, Ava, Jace, Aloy, and Garrett; 2 sisters:  Barbara Seibers and Ola Baker; daughters-in-law:  Alice Welch and Rose Welch; sister-in-law:  Wilma Welch Human; brother-in-law:  Willis Welch; special niece:  Kim Matthews; special nephews:  Ronnie Overton, Stacey Crowley; a very special lifetime friend:  Mildred Jeffers; loving caregivers:  Lona Huckeby, Suzie Cecil Montgomery and special granddaughter, McKenzie Welch; and many other nieces, nephews, other family members and friend.

Maxine was a welcoming person, a “true southern lady”.  She was kind, generous, funny and creative.  Out of necessity, she was an excellent cook and was very good at feeding her large group.  She gardened, canned, sewed, quilted, did embroidery and crocheting, planned well and made life easier and happier for all she could.  She liked camping, bowling and loved to read.

She loved growing up in the New River and Helenwood area, and was proud of her family and took great joy in their achievements and the many accomplishments in their lives.  She was loving, but firm, in her teaching and grooming of her children and grandchildren.  Always willing to help in any way she could, even being a caregiver to many of her grandchildren.  Fondly known as “Granny Mac”.

Maxine will be missed by her family, relatives, friends, and church family, but we will cherish our many wonderful memories of her almost 92 years on this earth.

Friends may visit with the Welch family on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Minister Jim Day and Chuck Jeffers officiating.   Music will be provided by the congregation.
