Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Terry Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Terry age 98 of Oneida, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at her home with her loving family and friends/caretakers by her side. Born in Scott County, TN on April 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Missouri Davis. She was the last surviving child of 11 children. Most called her Lizzie or Elizabeth in the community but those who met her called her a wonderful friend and she was the best Grandma ever.  She was a member of the Highpoint Baptist church. She enjoyed singing Gospel hymns and was a member of the Davis Quartet where she and her brothers Earl, Austin, and Joe sang together for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Alton M. Terry, married over 73 years; brothers, Sherman Davis, Earl Davis, George Davis, Steve Davis, Austin Davis, Joe Davis; sisters, Ernie Davis (infant), Hattie Davis Douglas, Flossie Davis, Delphia Davis (infant); daughter-in-law, Margaret McIntosh Terry; grandson, Kenneth Alton Terry; great grandsons, Justin Corey and Derrick Shane Terry (infants); longtime friends, Ella Burress, Cleta Duncan and Mary Helen Stanfield.

Lizzie is survived by son, Kenneth Ewell Terry and wife Marsha; granddaughters, Sheila Pike, Debbie Terry and husband Ernie Brewster; great grandchildren, Ricky Dale Walden, Ciara Nichole Sheets, Laura Elizabeth Sheets, Travis Austin Patrick Terry, Adam Leath and wife Stephanie and daughter Shelby, Chris Leath and son Skyler, Ericka Pike Vaden and husband Scott and their children, and Allison Cooper and husband Tony and daughter Lexi.

A very special thank you to her special friends/caretakers, Juanita Hatfield and husband Gene, Geneva Duncan, Lola Bowling and husband David and Weatherly Walters, Michelle Ashcroft, Lisa Bryant, Jessica Eads and the special care from Quality Home Health and Quality Hospice Care; special Friends, Paul and Norma Jean Denney, Ruth Ann Phillips and late husband James, Donna and Greg Martin and many special nieces, nephews, family and friends who she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank everyone who called to check on, who has said a prayer, sent cards, brought food, lent a hand, checked on our Grandma or even sat quietly in a chair you will never be forgotten. God bless you.

Friends may visit with the Terry family on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Crestin Burke and Bro. Kevin Reynolds officiating.

Committal service will be on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Smith-Forbis Cemetery in Oneida.  Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Hatfield, Gary Day, Rocky Watson, Randall Day, Larry Day, and Jamie Duvall. Honorary pallbearers: Ricky Dale Walden, Travis Austin and Patrick Terry.
