Kermit Laxton Obituary

Kermit Laxton, age 88, of Oneida, Tennessee went to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2019 peacefully surrounded by his family. Born August 30, 1930, he was preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Gustava (Acres) Laxton; sister, Laura Dyer; brother, Delbert Laxton; granddaughter, Cristy Leigh Smith.

He was a long-time member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon of First Baptist Church of Oneida. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed by C. M. McClung Hardware and First National Bank. Following his retirement, he lovingly cared for the Oneida High School football field and fieldhouse. He thoroughly enjoyed following and attending his grandsons’ high school athletics. He loved being “Papaw” to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hughla Cornn Laxton; daughter, Karen (Darrell) Sharp of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Kirk (Rhonda) Laxton of Winfield, Tennessee;  grandchildren, Michael (Erin) Laxton, Leslie (Matt) Smelcer, Travis (Lizz) Laxton, Marcus Laxton, Daniel Sharp; step grandson, Derek (Whitney) Sharp; great grandchildren, Miles, Ava, Scarlett, Marron, Elden; step great grandchildren, Brylie, Brodie, Lily, River, Mila, Amelia; and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Laxton family on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Main Street with Dr. Randy Pressnell, Bro. Chris Edmonds and Bro. Philip Kazee officiating.

Graveside service will be on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Laxton Cemetery in the Buffalo Community with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
