Joyce Ann Jeffers, 83, died Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Jamestown Assisted Living in Kingston.
Born in Norma, Tennessee, Joyce was the daughter of the late James Russell and Beatrice Settles Murley. She was a graduate of Norma High School, Class of 1953. Joyce received a BS Degree, cum laude from Tennessee Technological University and an MS Degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was a teacher for 34 years and retired from the Rhea County School System in 1992. Joyce was a member of the Rhea County Retired Teachers Association and the N.E.A and served on the Spring City Library Board. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spring City for more than 50 years and served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years in addition to supporting various ministries of the church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Walter Jeffers, sisters, infants Elsie and Gladys Murley and Mary Helen Watson, brother James R. Murley Jr. and son-in-law John Toliver Jr.
Survivors include her daughters Walta Toliver of Dayton and Marla (Charles) Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, grandsons John (Sarah Marie) Toliver III of Clarksville, Tennessee and James Walter (Sarah Kathleen) Toliver of Harker Heights, Texas, great grandchildren John W. Toliver IV, RuthAnne Toliver, Jeremiah Toliver and Joseph Toliver all of Clarksville and Addelynne Toliver of Harker Heights, Texas.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Vaughn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the Spring City Cemetery.
