James Randy West Obituary

James “Randy” West, age 57 of Oneida, TN, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, after a long battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by his family. Born November 7, 1960, in Scott County, TN, he was the eldest child of June Wolford West and the late James Rodney West. He was a member of the Pine Creek United Baptist Church.

Randy was a graduate of Oneida High School and earned his Bachelors of Science at MTSU. He worked for the State of Tennessee as a Soil Scientist for 17 years before starting Soil Solutions, Inc. with his best friend Don DeSha in 2000. He was an avid basketball player and fan, an artist, and a beloved son, husband, father, and friend.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mary Cotton Wolford, Ancil Wolford, Mable West Cecil, and Arthur “Butch” Jennings West.

Randy is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna Jones West; children: Rachel West of Atlanta, GA, and Griffin West of Nashville, TN; his mother, June Wolford West; sister: Sandy Martin and husband David; brother: Rodney Dale West; mother and father-in-law: Boyce and Norma Jones; brother-in-law: Steven Jones and wife Felicia; sister-in-law: Debra Carver and husband Joe; nephews: Jacob Carver, Noah Jones, and Luke Jones; nieces: Amanda Martin and Lacey Carver Massengale and husband Adam; great-niece: Sadie Belle Massengale; best friend: Don DeSha and wife Hilda; and many other family members and friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute, particularly to the doctors and nurses of 12 East.

Friends may visit with the West family on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Marcum officiating.

Burial will follow in the Marcum-Kidd Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Carver, Jacob Carver, Steven Jones, Noah Jones, David Martin and Don DeSha.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Tennessee Nursing Education, 12 E Staff, c/o UT Cancer Institute, 1926 Alcoa Hwy., Knoxville, TN  37920.
