Gertie Marie Stephens

Gertie Marie (Phillips) Stephens, born January 30, 1926, departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and was currently a member of Helenwood Baptist Church.  She is the daughter of the late Rev. General Calvin Phillips and Flora (Thomas) Phillips. 

She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Rannie Stephens; a granddaughter, Melanie Chitwood; a sister, Lenora (Phillips) Foster; a brother, Palm T. Phillips; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Stephens and father-in-law, Robert Stephens; sisters-in-law Pearl Phillips, Carol Phillips, Flora Stephens, Beulah Vanlandingham, Orpha Stephens, Judy Stephens, and Diane Stephens; brothers-in-law Jennings Stephens, Arthur Vanlandingham, Elmon Stephens, Robert Stephens Jr., Paul Waldroup, and Paul Stephens.

She is survived by her two daughters, Doris (Stephens) Chitwood and husband Wayne; and Rhonda (Stephens) Keeton and husband Allan; one granddaughter, Megan Chitwood and friend, Ryan Byrge, all of Oneida; one sister, Edith (Phillips) Stephens of Oneida; one brother, William Arthur Phillips of Atlanta, GA; uncle, John Marion Thomas of Oneida; sister-in-law, Myrtle Waldroup of Owensboro, KY; brothers-in-law Carl Stephens and wife Imogene, Herbert Stephens and wife Janet all of LaFollette, TN, Joe Stephens and wife Jackie of Winfield, TN, Frank Stephens and wife Betty of Sunman, IN, Lloyd Stephens and wife Martha of Batavia, OH, and Clyde Stephens and wife Diania of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by special friends Princess Reed, Jean Gassaway, Alma Mynatt, and a special caregiver and friend, Barbara Robbins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Friends may visit with the Stephens family on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Sexton officiating. Music will be provided by Arnold And Lloyd Stephens.

Interment will follow in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery in Oneida. Serving as pallbearers will be: Michael Phillips, Billy Phillips, Chris Stephens, Royce Stephens, Tony Brewster, and Brandon Simpson.
