Carol Sue Burchfield, 73, passed away on Aug. 21, 2017. Carol was born May 20, 1944 in Huntsville to the late Rankin Burchfield, Sr. and Violet Phillips Burchfield. Carol spent her final year on earth in Kingsport after living in Huntsville, and briefly in Knoxville, for most of her life.

Carol was a graduate of Huntsville High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. Following high school, Carol attended vocational school and worked as an LPN at Scott County Hospital in Oneida, among other facilities.

Carol was an avid reader and also enjoyed watching movies and helping her mother can vegetables. One of Carol’s specialties was her dill pickles, which may have been the best pickles ever. She was also a great baker and kept her family and friends’ sweet teeth satisfied with her popular chocolate pound cake.

Throughout life, Carol loved her entire family dearly. She always looked forward to family get-togethers, where her distinctive laughter was often heard. She is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, a sister, Alene Burress, and a special nephew, Billy McDonald, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carol is survived by brothers Rankin Burchfield, Jr. and wife Rella of Oneida, and Gary Burchfield and wife Kathryn of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Terry Burress and wife Linda of Jacksboro, Sherry Burress Phillips and husband Tim of Huntsville, Jim Burchfield and wife Diane of Oneida, Scott Burchfield and wife Bridgett of Oneida, Jane Burchfield Shoopman and husband Stokely of Oneida, and Joe Burchfield of Nashville. Carol also leaves a host of beloved great-nieces and nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carol Sue Burchfield to the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department or the Unicorn Fund of Morgan and Scott Counties.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 8 p.m. with Bro. Randy Presnell officiating in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.   Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Carson Memorial Park.
