Ortha Byrd, age 87 of Pioneer, TN passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at her home in the Ditney Trail Community of Scott County.  Ortha was born March 6, 1930 to the late Mike and Emma Lay. 

She married Charlie Byrd on August 26, 1946 and they were together 54 years, 7 months, and 12 days until his death. 

 In addition to her husband and parents, Ortha was preceded in death by infant son, Leroy Byrd; daughter, Jewel Williams; daughter-in-law, Ruby Jean Byrd; grandsons, Paul and Dustin Bowling; brothers, Kelly, Wilbert, Arnold, and Jay Lay; infant brothers, Hubert and Leon Lay; and twin sister, Dorthy Byrd.

 Mrs. Byrd is survived by sons, Estle Ray Byrd of Annadell, Junior Byrd and wife, Faye, of Ditney Trail, Arvil Wayne Byrd of Haleyville, Alabama, Jimmy Byrd and wife, Tammy, of Ditney Trail, Odeva Byrd and wife, Lillie, of Ditney Trail; daughters, Audra Frost and husband, Woren, of Haleyville, Alabama, Brenda Bowling and husband, Gene, of Straight Fork; son-in-law, Billy Joe Williams of Ditney Trail; sister, Nettie Lay of Rock House; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

 Friends may visit with the Byrd family on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Dudley Harness and Bro. Mike Chambers officiating.      

Graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Five Black Gums cemetery in the Rock House Community of Scott County.
