Edith Litton Blevins Armstrong, age 93 of Knoxville, Tennessee and formerly of Oneida, passed away peacefully in Knoxville on Friday, October 27, 2017. She was a beloved grandmother, faithful friend, and cherished by many. Surviving the Depression and as a young Tennessean girl, her dream was to attend high school and live in the big city. Her parents wanted her to remain in Oneida and someday run the family farm. Edith was such a hard worker that her father "Lum" nicknamed her "Pigiron." She loved her large family dearly, but in the end, education and a life of travel was in her veins.

In 1939, Edith married Joseph Price Blevins of Oneida, son of a Baptist preacher, and they had three children: Joseph Stephen, Patricia Vallefuoco, and Judith Scudder. Her love of travel never waned. Edith lived in Ohio, California, Oregon, Illinois, Alabama, Maryland and Tennessee. Her friends and family grew from coast to coast, America was her home. At the age of 84 and after the passing of her second husband, Leland Groh Armstrong of Illinois, Edith came to live with her grand-daughter, Sarah Scudder-Buechley, her husband Boaz, and their three young children Ryan Cannon, WiL Samuel, and Gabriella Isabelle. For nine years we enjoyed childhood stories of Oneida, lessons in southern cooking, gardening, canning, sewing anything you could imagine, and how to hang laundry properly on the line. She deeply loved a hand-written letter, collecting books, beans n' cornbread, leather gloves, dancing the Charleston, and being chauffeured in the backseat of a Cadillac on a Sunday afternoon. So although our Grandma is exactly where she wanted to be, in heaven with her Savior, it is the silly moments here on earth that we will miss most about her.

In addition to her parents, Ella Kidd and Christopher Columbus Litton, Edith was preceded in death by nine siblings, two husbands, her son Joseph Stephen, grandchildren Anthony Vallefuoco and Rebecca Scudder. She is survived by her sister Christine Scharfe, two daughters, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in June 2018 at Leatherwood Cemetery in Oneida, TN during the annual family decoration.
