Alton M. Terry

U.S. Veteran

Alton M. Terry, age 96 of Oneida, husband of Elizabeth Terry, departed this life on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his residence with his loving family at his bedside. Born on September 1, 1916 in Scott County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Burdow and Lillie Thomas Terry.

Alton was an avid farmer for over 60 years. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and papaw. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Mable West; brothers: Cephos, Hillary, Homer, Walter, and Everett Terry; daughter-in-law Margaret E. McIntosh Terry; grandson Kenny A. Terry; two great grandchildren: Dereck Shane and Justin Cory Terry.

Survived by his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth Davis Terry; one son Kenneth E. Terry and wife Marsha of Oneida, Tennessee; sister Maxine Burnett of Ypsilanti, Michigan; brother-in-law Joe Davis and wife Eva of Oneida, Tennessee; grandchildren: Sheila Renea Pike of Frisco, Texas, Debbie L. Terry of Louisville, Tennessee, and Allison Cooper and husband Tony of Oneida, Tennessee; seven great grandchildren: Ricky Dale Walden of Oneida, Tennessee, Ciara Nichole Sheets and Laura Elizabeth Sheets both of Louisville, Tennessee, Travis Austin Patrick Terry of Cassville, Georgia, Adam Leath of Gainsville, Florida, Chris Leath of Cassville, Georgia, and Alexus Nichole Cooper of Oneida, Tennessee; numerous special friends from High Point Baptist Church; two wonderful caregivers Jackie and Shannon of Hospice Quality Care; special niece Shirley Day; special friends Melissa Howard of Pioneer, Tennessee and Megan Ayers Blackstone of Chattanooga, Tennessee; many more nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends and neighbors. Friends may visit with the Terry family on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Dilman Stanley and Bro. Jamie Byrd officiating. Graveside service will be on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Smith-Forbis Cemetery
