Marcus Warren “Marc” Phillips age 57 passed away peacefully on April 6, 2012 at his home in Helenwood after a lengthy illness.

Born in Harriman, Tennessee on May 12, 1954 he was the son and only child of the late Paul W. and Helen Rose Butler Phillips.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville for over 45 years.

Marc was a 1971 graduate of Huntsville High School where he played varsity football for four years and represented H.H.S. at the American Legion Boys’ State in 1970. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and worked as a dispatcher for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department. He graduated from the Tennessee Police Academy and served Scott County as a deputy sheriff for several years. He worked for the Huntsville Utility District and was the manager there for a time. He later began working in the field of television cable construction and eventually became owner and operator of his own cable construction company.

Marc’s main hobby was music. His passion was pop and rock music from the 1950’s to present, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of all the bands, individual performers and their discographies. His mind was an amazing repository of information and he had an uncanny ability to recall any song or album title, lyric or artist at will, pulling from tens of thousands of works. He also enjoyed reading, outdoor activities and caring for his dogs.

In addition to his parents Marc was also preceded in death by grandparents, John Critt and Una Dawson Phillips of Helenwood, Frank C. “Jap” and Pearl Pemberton Butler of Huntsville; uncles, Critt Dawson Phillips and wives, Geraldine and Peggy, Joseph C. Phillips and wife Pearl; aunts, Betty Fisher and husband Thomas, Charlene Jeffers and husband Clair, Juanita Smith, Frankie June Christensen, Marrah Kate Mineer and husband Bill; first cousin, Terry Jeffers.

Marc is survived by the love of his life, Debra B. O’Neil; her daughters, Savannah and Shauntae; granddaughter, Adele who loved her “Pea Paw” so much; cousins, Joseph D. (Danny) Phillips, Nancye Poore, Clairian Honeycutt, Gary, Tracy, Frank and Larry Jeffers; Billiebeth Duncan, Carol Sue Phillips, William Danny, John and Mary Mineer, Maurine Poole and Maaike Bose; lifetime friends: Craig Reed and Jerry Voiles, and longtime friends: Stan Reed and Robert Hughett.

He also leaves a host of other loving relatives and special friends.

Marc’s wish was to be cremated with no memorial service.
